It’s definitely worth renting if you’re at all curious.
Four year old Marla is a typical child and a typical temperamental artist (they are one in the same right?), but instead of shooting heroin she’s into juice boxes. Her poor parents feel so torn and distraught about the possible damage done to their daughter. When really, there are much worse things you could do to a child. And, btw, abstract art is a hoax if you think it’s ugly, and if you like it, you like it. Even if her father did coach or help her a little, which they never prove, what artist hasn’t had an editor or a teacher at some point?
I found a great quote in Wonder Time magazine that goes well with this movie:
“Picasso allegedly said that it took him a few years to learn how to draw like Raphael, but a lifetime to draw like a child.”
