Follow-up Movie Review: My Kid Could Paint That

November 5, 2007

It’s definitely worth renting if you’re at all curious.

Four year old Marla is a typical child and a typical temperamental artist (they are one in the same right?), but instead of shooting heroin she’s into juice boxes. Her poor parents feel so torn and distraught about the possible damage done to their daughter. When really, there are much worse things you could do to a child. And, btw, abstract art is a hoax if you think it’s ugly, and if you like it, you like it. Even if her father did coach or help her a little, which they never prove, what artist hasn’t had an editor or a teacher at some point?

I found a great quote in Wonder Time magazine that goes well with this movie:

Picasso allegedly said that it took him a few years to learn how to draw like Raphael, but a lifetime to draw like a child.”

Interesting documentary…

September 7, 2007

I can’t wait to see this new documentary about a 4 year old painter called “My Kid Could Paint That“. Marla’s paintings have sold for as much $24,000.

I can’t think of any 4 year who isn’t a painter, but her work is quite nice. Just goes to show that if you give your kid an opportunity and some tools, anything can happen. My 7 yr old made an interesting point too, he said “ya know there’s an elephant that can paint too mom”. (and gorillas, etc…)
